... Culex was my concern.  

During tactical deployments, I was tasked with identifying standing water in the AO and ensuring Culex was not lying in wait.  

Although US soldiers and most of the KATUSA personnel were vaccinated for Japanese encephalitis, some were not.

Culex's unique position while resting on  water reveals its presence.

Mosquito control can then fly in...

Ambushed by the Viet Cong in 1967...

... as part of an NVA , Viet Cong and Chinese element large enough to engage a US Army battalion...

... and as recounted to me

 (at one of my father's legendary 'pig pickin' get togethers) by  SSG Daw's fellow eleven Bravos who were there...

Many prayers went up as SSG Daw's point platoon was pinned down...

... and no response to repeated air support requests.

God sent the first true rotary wing gunship...
