Dr. Thomas Waddell, again, the only individual I have encountered with a photographic memory...
Chemistry and Physics Emeritus Faculty
Dr. Waddell had impressed me on a number of occasions in his and Dr. Ben Gross' Organic Chemistry lectures.
Presenting such a tortuous complexity as God's chemistry kit in such a manner that college kids can grasp those complexities is no easy task.
Again, UTC taught real science.
Compelling professors were found, not only in the science arena, but also in Honors classes.
That moment of Dr. Waddell's incredible memory came to my realization in Organic Chemistry II lab.
I was tasked to identify the 'unknown' substance that was before me.
Those many years ago have blunted the edges of my often-remembered memory of Dr. Waddell's walking through the lab and stopping at my bench.
"Have you determined your unknown?", he queried.
I was pretty confident it was Cadmium - no that was General Chemistry lab.
At any rate, my answer was confirmed by Dr. Waddell with that omnipresent smile.
As he walked away, I noted he did not have the notebook containing the 'unknown' assignments to which student.
And there were more than eighty different unknown assignments for that lab session.
How could Dr. Waddell know off the top of his head what mine was...
Yikes!
Biochemistry further confirmed my determination that this man was clearly gifted.
