A young Second Lieutenant that was quartered in an officer BOQ where he did not belong...
As a junior officer stationed in Yongsan, he should have been in BOQ facilities similar to those found at TDY assignments.
Nevertheless, I overlooked this when I was attached to the 10th Medical Detachment (DS) in Yongsan, and assigned to a 5 man BOQ.
Quite the departure from the Quonset Hut at Camp Casey, this abode came with full services provided by a quite delightful Korean lady ... Ajumma.
Eighth Army's SOFA agreement with the ROK provided a fifty dollar monthly payment to Ajumma from each officer.
The five of us always supplemented that small sum with 'accidentally-on-purpose' purchases of extra cheese, for example. With our limited food storage capability, Ajumma did us all a favor by taking this excess food home to her family.
As an O-3 (P), promotable captain, I was designated Senior Occupant for this BOQ.
Per Army regulations, there was a little white sign posted prominently outside.
As such, any activity in violation of those
Army regs would find me liable.
Again, upon my initial arrival to the BOQ, I didn't raise a fuss about the fact this young 2LT was in an 0-3 and above BOQ.
However, it wasn't long before the rest of us recognized this HBCU-commissioned officer was NOT 'an officer and a gentleman'.
This idiot bragged on his exploits while working at a Montgomery Ward fulfillment center during college.
I still remember the big smile on the face of this POS while extolling his theft of numerous cassette tapes.
A week or so later, in the dark of night, three of us watched from outside through a large picture window as this rat stole our food!
Yes, Martha, this SOB stole from the other officers in the BOQ.
DEI at work: 2LT Alvin ------ brought his fat, stinky and inconsiderate wife into our BOQ, in lieu of placing her in a hotel in Itaewon during her visit to see her husband.
In a stark violation of Army regulations, he allowed a civilian to spend the night in our BOQ.
And another and another...
... despite my admonition to him after her first night.
A week goes by with this water buffalo taking over the common bathroom, locking the door and delaying the officers from their daily 'Shave, Shower and Sh*t' routines...
As senior occupant, despite a Navy Lieutenant Commander (O-4) being one of our crew, I was concerned about the ramifications of such activity. I met with his battalion commander who was glad to hear about the exploits of his young lieutenant. This provided the nail in the coffin for separating this 'soldier' from the Army.
The next day, I was confronted by an angry Second Lieutenant who disapproved of my meeting with his battalion commander. After a long day at Carius Dental Clinic, I was in no mood to hear his bellyaching.
As soon as I entered the common area, Alvin stomped over to me and got in my face. The young lieutenant was a good sized man, about my size; I suspected he would do something he would regret.
He did.
With Ajumma watching, eyes like saucers, Alvin made the mistake of poking his finger into my chest. I thanked this asshole and proceeded to contact the Military Police. Charged with assaulting an officer, he was cuffed and hauled off to the stockade, never to be seen again.
Probably Fort Leavenworth bound...
Another of those HBCU graduates...
