With baby Kara in tow, we went to my cousin's wedding.  I was excited for Lisa to meet aunts and uncles and cousins, but a trip to Walmart in order to acquire a few baby items just prior was eye opening. 

That was the beginning of the end for the Republicans in North Carolina.  Hispanics, as a rule are God fearing, hard working folks; they tend to be Demoncrats, however.

Sadly, a fellow medical officer and Manly Man with the Second Medical Battalion, Second Infantry Division, US Forces, Korea, was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

As Division Social Worker for the Second ID, he wanted his better half, Connie, to be with him.  He provided an apartment for her in Tongduchon, at his own expense.

She was an effusive and delightful American patriot.  Further, she was kind of a substitute mom or sister for many of us unaccompanied officers.

Rewarded with a nice return assignment to CONUS after his remarkable efforts on behalf of 2d ID soldiers, Paul and Connie looked forward to three years of stability at the Pentagon.

I was stunned one day when I received a call from Connie sharing with me Paul's diagnosis.  This was a rapidly advancing carcinoma; Paul's strength was waning precipitously.  She asked if I would drive them to Austin, his long time dream, where Connie would soon have their first child.

This remarkable lady drove Paul to Chattanooga.  After a respite in Chattanooga, I drove us to Waco, spending the night with one of Paul's friends.

A good night's sleep and it was Austin the next day...
